My family has been huge fans of the cheese platter for years now.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>It started when I was like 12 or 14 when my mom made a wrapped brie appetizer for the holidays.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Not that cheese wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t a huge part of my life prior to this event.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I am from the Midwest where dairy has its own sacred place in the food lexicon, but this was the first time that I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d experienced anything outside of the hard block of yellow or white cheese.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Since then, there have been numerous cheese platters.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Some stand out more than others and while the cheese is definitely the highlight, it also has to do with who you are sharing it with and what you choose to go along with it.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Early this spring my sister and her boyfriend came down for a visit from Seattle and we decided to check out Steve\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Cheese<\/a> for the first time.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t ask me why it took me so long to get over there, but it was years wasted in my opinion.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>The cheese and cured meats selection was wide and diverse and the service was exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>The cheese platter we ended up with \u00e2\u20ac\u201c largely made up of recommendations \u00e2\u20ac\u201c was delightful.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know what other word to use.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>We paired the cheese and meat with some bread and vegetables that we had picked up at the farmer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s market so we were truly fulfilling the northwest food geek stereotype. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We had three different cheeses all from the pacific northwest.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>They are all well known cheese makers and I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve run into these cheeses since then at cheese tastings and counters around town.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>That said all three are really delicious representations of pacific northwest cheese.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>The Willamette Valley Cheese<\/a>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Boerenkass (a raw cow milk cheese) was mild, but really full of flavor and went really well with the bread and Fra Mani Sopressata.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This was the first time that I had tasted Rivers Edge Chevre<\/a>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Up in Smoke (goat milk).\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>This was unbelievably fantastic.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I love goat cheese and I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve never tasted a goat cheese like this – rich, smoky, creamy.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve had this over and over again since this first tasting.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I liked eating it wrapped in the Iowa applewood smoked durroc ham we got from Steve\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Cheese. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The final cheese was from Estrella Family Creamery<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I first had their cheese after visiting the Ballard farmer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s market so this was not a new cheese maker for us, but it was the first time I tasted their Guapier (cow milk).\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>This cheese has a layer of ash running through the center separating the morning and evening milking.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>There really was a stark difference in taste between the two sides and it made for a fun tasting.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>It was a really delicious cheese that was really best \u00e2\u20ac\u201c in my opinion \u00e2\u20ac\u201c eaten by itself.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This was one of those really great cheese experiences.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>The company was fun and casual and into the cheese. And the cheese lived up to the moment with great flavors.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
